This countryside house in England gave ARH STUDIO the chance to build an interior around a genuinely warm, character-driven take on mid-century style — deep, saturated jewel tones instead of the pale neutrals the style is often reduced to, paired with the curved silhouettes and honest materials the era is known for.

The kitchen sets that tone immediately. Full-height olive-green cabinetry anchors one wall, its warm, slightly muted green playing off a rich walnut base and a book-matched marble backsplash. A burgundy tiled kitchen island adds an unexpected pop of color at counter height, finished with a travertine top and surrounded by cream boucle bar stools. Brass hardware, a brass gooseneck faucet, and a pair of glass pendant lamps tie the metals together, while herringbone oak flooring and an arched doorway nod to the house's period character.

The main living room leans into a softer, more atmospheric palette. A hand-painted mural in muted taupe and cream wraps the far wall with a hazy, landscape-like scene, and a deep olive velvet sectional sits at the center of the room, layered with warm neutral cushions. An amber-glass disc chandelier and a sculptural arc floor lamp provide two very different kinds of period-appropriate lighting, while a pair of wood-framed armchairs and a sculptural walnut coffee table complete a room built for actually spending time in.

A second sitting room takes the palette darker and moodier. Walnut-paneled walls frame a pair of fluted-glass display cabinets lit from within, set against a terracotta accent wall and a weathered abstract mirror panel. Cognac leather armchairs, a tufted boucle sectional, and a faceted amber-glass room divider bring texture and warmth to a space clearly designed for evenings in — reading, conversation, a drink by the window.

The bedroom carries the same confidence in color. A deep burgundy ceiling border and accent wall frame a run of soft cream wall paneling, while the bed itself, upholstered in olive-green boucle, sits under a mustard-and-brown layered bedspread. A warm abstract painting in rust, cream, and black anchors the wall above the headboard, and a mix of brass pendant and sconce lighting keeps the room glowing rather than glaring.

Both bathrooms extend the same fearless use of color into smaller spaces. One is wrapped in warm pink square tile with a rust-toned floating vanity and an organic-shaped bronze mirror; the other pairs coral-pink walls with fluted green tile, a wavy red-framed mirror, and a warm wood vanity with red hardware — proof that even the smallest rooms in this house got the same level of design attention as the rest.

The project is currently under construction, with ARH STUDIO overseeing the build through to completion.
